Intelligence and Girls - The Eternal Cliché

…So I was wasting my time on 9gag this evening when I stumbled across this post :

… And I was shocked by the picture that went along with the text.
So, in order to claim that “intelligence is sexy” you just put a girl that’s exactly like the perfect girl according to today’s beauty criterias, who’s posing and doing absolutely nothing, EXEPT wearing “geeky” glasses (those which have become so fashionable and hipster, you know?)…. I wish wearing glasses was enough to become smart. World would probably be a better place if it was actually the case.
Note for the author of the picture: next time you try to make an inspirational picture for girls who actually try to think, well… Maybe you should get out of all the clichés first?
Also you should stop picturing girls with their mouths half open, not all girls are ready-to-suck-dicks dolls (or Kristen Stewart)

I don’t want to be mean and the fact that people claiming that girls having brains and being actually interesting and desireable is a great thing, but as girls we have to fight against EVERY cliché, because each cliché will help bring prejudice and a bad image of women.
I know it can be hard when you’re not vigilant to spot or avoid each prejudice about women in a picture, because our world is full of them: adverts, magazines and even that kind of picutres which were made in order to promote feminist ideas. So keep trying and keep your eyes open!

PS: I don’t know who created this image, I’ve searched on google and aparently it has become a sort of meme and it’s quite famous on the Internet so I can’t find the source…

Kazuo Oga is one of the most inconspicuously famous artists, which is inspirational in its own right by how humbling it is. You would think they were digital from an immediate approach, however upon closer inspection of the textures, lighting and layering it’s clear they’re perfectly hand crafter watercolour pieces. His works, featured in the backgrounds of various Studio Ghibli films, are subtle enough to blend into the background of the films yet stand out alone as perfection of watercolour techniques and command of lighting. Just considering there are scenes where the camera pans across his works for several long moments reflects the sublime quality of his work. And that he was able to develop enough artworks to supply several films with stunning backdrops is nothing short of breathtaking. That’s a good word for it, “breathtaking”. I’m like 90% sure they were gouache or poster-paint though; it’s pretty hard to get a thick and solid/opaque effect with watercolour. Also because using gouache/poster-paint is pretty old-school industry standard.  edit: oop, I researched and found out that apparently every single ghibli bg were all made with poster paint (*do a little i-was-right dance*). You can find out more here (someone in the comments even has a name for the products ghibli uses, so maybe you’ll be able to purchase it online somewhere.)
